It’s past time for big tech to get serious about the commute.

What?

Sure, Google, Apple, and Meta (and Genentech, Netflix, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Intuit, etc.) each spend millions on their exclusive shuttle programs—and therein lies the problem! Each company that does its own thing gets at best half of what it’s paying for due to the unproductive ‘deadhead’ trips inherent in these exclusive, unidirectional systems—not to mention redundant administrative support.

As a result, Bay Area roads remain as congested as ever. About 20% of our precious real estate is devoted to parking—storage for cars that are idle 95% of their life, and squander time, money, attention, and patience when they are in use. Meanwhile, BART and Caltrain are warning of yet another ‘fiscal cliff,’ threatening the region’s long-term viability.

Imagine what these resources could be doing for the region if optimized collectively.

CommuteSource generates a comprehensive, robust, demand-responsive, commercial mass transit network that complements our most efficient commuter rail systems, making them more accessible, safe, and effective, while maximizing the efficiency of existing private shuttle programs.

How?

CommuteSource decouples shuttle programs from individual employers, allowing us to optimize system-wide productivity beyond the needs of a single client. Employees still get dedicated, secure rides to and from work, but CommuteSource monetizes what is now unused shuttle capacity with service to destinations at the other end of your routes. Our 'hub-and-bespoke' service model dynamically optimizes ad hoc routes servicing appropriately aggregated demand, and employers pay only for the services their employees actually use.

Ready?

The Bay Area is home to the most profitable, innovative companies the world has ever seen. “With great power comes great responsibility”—to address the downsides of success effectively and equitably. Managing a transit system is not your core business; doing so yourself generates its own inefficiencies, and your suppliers have neither the opportunity nor the incentive to improve the situation.

Partnering with CommuteSource unlocks economies of scale, enhancing service, cutting costs, and boosting employee satisfaction as well as attendance, while improving the region in countless ways.
