For years, big-tech workers have cruised past the stress of rush-hour traffic. Soon, you can too.
Major employers of Silicon Valley have long provided free commuter shuttles to their employees, be it luxury coaches for long-haul trips (“the Google Bus”), or smaller shuttles connecting offices to transit hubs.
For the past 15 years, I’ve helped manage these commute programs. Living in Oakland and working at these companies, I know these services inside and out. Let me tell you: being driven to and from work is life-changing. When I worked at Apple, I fell into a fairly consistent routine: work on the way in; nap on the way home. Either way, I arrived ready for what was next. With two young kids at the time, I can’t imagine how my parenting would have suffered if I had to white-knuckle through rush-hour traffic on 880 every day.
That experience pulled me into the transportation industry. Now, I’m working to bring these benefits to everyone.
My startup, CommuteSource.com, is the Uber of shared transportation. We're launching a more affordable, turnkey version of the Google Bus, featuring a "Hub & Bespoke" service model that scales with network effects. Our services will leverage BART and Caltrain where they can, be eligible for pre-tax transit benefits, and be optionally subsidized by employers. Your commute will be flexible, reliable, hands-free, stress-free, and cheaper than driving alone.
We’re crowdsourcing where to start: tell us about your commute to help shape our services to meet your needs.
